In 1989, Lexical produced the original UMLS® Metathesaurus® for the National Library of Medicine (NLM), integrating the principal naming and coding systems used in healthcare. Recently, Apelon has begun working for a number of private sector clients, including Kaiser Permanente Medical Group (Oakland, CA), the National Cancer Institute (Bethesda, MD), College of American Pathologists (Chicago, IL), the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN), and Harvard/Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Boston, MA). Apelon is negotiating relationships with several healthcare enterprises, EMR systems vendors, health portals, and professional organizations.
